Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Summary:
Oversees the development and implementation of manufacturing processes to maintain proper product functionality as well as cost efficiency. Works closely with outside manufacturers to ensure that manufacturing processes are in-line with Young Living standards and to help solve manufacturing issues as they arise during the production phase. Maximizes efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization. Determines parts and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to the product specifications. Works closely with Development Department to ensure that new or redesigned products are able to be manufactured per specifications. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the industry such as protocols, reports, specifications, schematics, etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Identifies, in conjunction with production and maintenance, areas of process improvement in the manufacturing area. These areas include equipment, workflow, assembly methods, work force utilization, and overall process.
• Puts together project plans and/or protocols for these process improvements. Guides these projects to completion by interfacing with production, maintenance, or development departments. Reviews production and cost reports and resolves operational, manufacturing and maintenance problems to prevent waste and production inefficiency. Inspects in-house equipment to ensure operational performance requirements are met.
• Develops working relationships with all third-party manufacturers by meeting and working with their manufacturing/QA/R&D departments.
• Responds to concerns and issues that arise with outside manufacturers during their production process. Interfaces with them to solve concerns/issues so that product meets pre-determined specifications and work instructions. Recommends solutions and follows-up on completion of any agreed upon corrective actions.
• Attends cross-functional meetings during the development phase of new or re-designed products. Interfaces with other departments to ensure that these products can be produced to desired specifications. Recommends changes or improvements during these meetings and works closely with Development to ensure product is ready for scale-up into production. Helps determine manufacturers to be used in the development of new products.
• Verifies the capability and capacity of manufacturing to produce new products in conformance with worker safety, product safety/quality, regulatory, efficiency and cost requirements. Communicates to product development and management - manufacturing constraints and potential solutions with regard to new product design.
• Helps conduct vendor audits of third-party manufacturers to ensure compliance to Young Living standards and to assess ability to manufacture according to specifications. Works as part of the team that rates vendors and determines recommendations for increased monitoring and/or qualifying of vendors.
• Works with Marketing and other departments in developing improvements to product packaging in performance, manufacturability, and efficiency while ensuring marketability.
• Performs and reports analysis of data/reports monitoring the overall manufacturing process of products or procedures.
• Assists in the preparation of protocols and reports for validation and qualification work associated with manufacturing equipment and/or manufacturing process. Helps coordinate and execute validation and qualification activities by constant communication with affected departments and personnel. Assists in the review of validation and qualification processes and procedures in the manufacturing area.
• Directs the development and execution of training on any new processes implemented.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent; preferably in an Engineering, Biology, or Chemistry. Preferably experience in implementing manufacturing processes, packaging engineering, writing protocols, validation or qualification expertise. Preferably two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
