Tibetan TB Project
After a recent trip to Tibet, Ingrid Dilley and Tibetan monk Thupten Dadak became aware of the health crisis facing Tibetan refugees. After discovering that Tibetans in exile suffer one of the highest rates of tuberculosis (TB) in the world, Ingrid and Thupten brought the Tibetan TB Project to Young Living’s attention. Through this project, Young Living supplies Tibetan refugees with essential oils, diffusers, Thieves® products, and wellness education and hopes to prevent further issues caused by the spreading of this potentially life-threatening disease. In his article, “Tibet’s Other Fight: Tuberculosis,” published March 28, 2009, in the Wisconsin State Medical Journal, Dr. Zorba Paster cites some alarming statistics regarding Tibetans infected by TB:
- In the United States TB affects four out of every 100,000 people.
- In India TB affects 130 out of every 100,000 people.
- Exiled Tibetans suffer from TB at a rate of 800 per every 100,000 people.
- Treatment for TB costs only $25 for a six-month course.
