Hi Elizabeth, We recommend to always follow the dilution ratios listed on the Thieves cleaner label. For most cleaning applications, it is recommended to use 30 parts water to 1 part cleaner. As long as label directions are followed, it should be safe and effective for use around children. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Laara! The plastic used in packaging our products including the sprays and Thieves® Household Cleaner is high-end plastics that are formulated to be able to hold the essential oils and retain safety. In addition, the essential oils included in the products are not potent enough to damage the plastic packaging. Please be assured, we strive to use the best products and packaging based on the products and their use. Great question, and thanks for stopping by!
Hi Brenda! The main difference is in the applied use of the blend of Thieves® oil. Ensure that you are not diffusing the Thieves® Household Cleaner and follow all usage instructions on all product and bottle labels. See more usage instructions for our Thieves Essential Oil here. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Amanda! Any glass bottle is safe to use, as long as it is not left in the sun for long periods of time. The main reason for amber glass, is that it protects the constituents in the oils from harmful UV rays, which can break down the constituents in essential oils. Thanks for stopping by!
I purchased glass spray bottles to use for my Thieves cleaner. The spray tube is still plastic though. Can I leave it in the bottle?
Hi Rene, It would be fine to store the mixture in the cleaner, however, we recommend that any plastic parts not be in contact for more than a few days due to the essential oils. We recommend storing the mixture in the glass container and connecting the sprayer as needed. Thanks for stopping by!
I use this cleaner around my child all the time. I do have someone claiming that it is unsafe though, how am I supposed to respond?
Hi Katie, Thieves Household Cleaner is safe around adults, pets and children. If you have further concerns, we recommend reviewing the product with your child’s pediatrician for targeted advice. Thanks for stopping by!

Should Thieves oil and/or cleaning products be mixed in a glass bottle or is plastic okay?
Hello Sarah, We do not recommend storing undiluted essential oils in plastic containers. Using essential oils and essential oil products safely in conjunction with plastic containers depends highly on the type of plastic, the concentration of essential oils, and the amount of time the oils are stored in the container or the amount of time the essential oils come in contact with the plastic parts. We feel that it is better to avoid adding essential oils to plastic contains whenever possible. Using a PETE or PP plastic bottle can help, but we recommend switching to glass or stainless steel if you would like to use the same bottle for extended periods of time. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Laura, Thanks for stopping by it is not necessary to let this product sit on a surface for a specific amount of time. However, you may let the cleaner sit on the surface depending on your own personal preferences and the surface that is being cleaned.
Can you confirm that the Thieves cleaner kills bacteria? Or is it more of a refreshing/surface cleanser? Thanks.

I’m new to YL. Household cleaner ultra-concentrated to keep away from you skin?? Is that before diluted??
Hi Bran, Theives® Household Cleaner is formulated for non-poures surfaces. Some of the ingredients can cause dryness especially to those with sensitive skin. This is true for before dilution and after. There for we have added this warning.
I use Theives Household Cleaner in my shower and it seems to be eating away at the grout. Should I be diluting it more? I really do love using no chemicals!
Hi Heidi, We would recommend using the General cleaner dilution. The dilution instructions are noted on the back of the product bottle. It is one part solution for each: 30 part water to 1 cap.
Can you use it to brighten the grout on my bathroom floor? Tired of scrubbing with a toothbrush and not seeing much of a difference.
Hi Cindy, If the Thieves® Household Cleaner is used according to the label directions and dilution ratios there should be no negative effects from using it on the bathroom floor. We recommend doing a spot test in an inconspicuous location before cleaning all the floor. Thanks for stopping by.
I was curious if the thieves household cleaner can be used in a diffuser?
Hi Heather, We would not recommend using the Thieves® Household Cleaner in any manner other than its intended purpose. We advised to always follow label direction.
I have a question about Thieves cleaner. I am new the YL, and so far I love it! I recently used Thieves cleaner to disinfect a water cooler at work. I might have used a bit to much, but have rinsed out the system several times with at least 7 gallons of water or more. I can still smell Thieves in the water, and as I taste tested a bit of it, I can also detect a hint of it, but just barely. Should I be worried? Do you think it is safe to go ahead and drink?
Hi Andrea, If any residue is remaining, we anticipate it being heavily diluted and should therefore have no adverse affects. We suggest reviewing the manual or contacting the manufacturer of the water cooler for alternative cleaning solutions.
Just wanting to know if Thieves Household Cleaner is recommended for cleaning bamboo flooring. TIA!
Hi Allie, We recommend doing a spot test in an inconspicuous location before cleaning the entire floor. You may also want to contact the manufacturer for any information on the finish that may interact negatively with Thieves Household Cleaner. If the surface appears porous, we would encourage you to use another product that may be better suited to the surface. Thanks for stopping by with your question!
If the household cleaner was to be used in a state regulated day care center what would be the contact time? For example: The diaper changing area was cleaned with Thieves Cleaner, how long would they have to wait before changing another diaper?

I understand this cleaner is safe to use around kids, but what if my child accidentally ingested it? I want to completely rid my home of dangerous cleaners.
Hi Priscilla, It is recommended to keep this product out of reach of children. However, if a child or infant swallows an essential oil, administer milk, Agave, honey or other safe, oil-soluble liquid. If dilution does not provide relief, contact your health care professional. Thanks for stopping by with your question.
LOVE YL SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!

1/8 cup Distilled White Vinegar
2-4 Tablespoons Grapeseed Oil
1 cap Thieves Household Cleaner
5 drops YL Lemon Oil
Shake before each use. Spray a small area of floor then mop it up and repeat on the next section.
