For many, this time of year can be hectic and exhausting. Between juggling busy school schedules, meeting deadlines, and everything else on your plate, having a sharp mind to stay on top of it all is crucial. I’m excited to share five practices I have recently discovered that support my mental focus and increase my energy levels:
1. Before going to sleep, I slice ¼ of a cucumber and add the slices to 12 ounces of water, then leave it in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning, I add a few drops of Citrus Fresh essential oil blend to the cucumber-infused water and drink it within 10 minutes of waking.
2. Every day I try to take 15 minutes to calm my mind and focus my thoughts. Meditation can be as simple as sitting quietly or concentrating on your breathing. Meditation has been practiced for centuries and is known for unique benefits such as increased awareness, decreased stress levels, and heightened mental clarity. I often diffuse Clarity essential oil blend to enhance my reflection time.
3. Sometime around my midday meal, I like to take advantage of a few cognition-supporting supplements. NingXia Nitro is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up, full of beneficial ingredients like D-Ribose and Korean ginseng extract. I also like to use MindWise, Young Living’s new advanced brain wellness serum. Providing vitamin D, CoQ10, ALCAR, and GPC, MindWise is my go-to supplement for supporting my mind and memory.*
4. In addition to stimulating multiple areas of the brain, music helps minimize background noise and distractions. I have found classical music to be my ultimate distraction reducer. Whether I am at work, completing household chores, or simply relaxing, listening to my favorite composers keeps my mind motivated and engaged.

New to Young Living, but so glad that I discovered it!! It has be helpful to me, in soo many ways!! :)
Going to have to try the Mind-wise, since I’ve been dealing with a lot of brain fog and would love for that to get better. After what I’ve read…it will.
Been using the Stress Away and love it and know that I’ll love this! ^_^
I am learning so much from reading these blog entries! So far peppermint is my favorite oil. I also like lemon and lime, and sometimes peppermint in water instead of my very ol’ friend, Coke. I also use Ningxia Red twice a day. The blog is giving me some great ideas about using other Young Living oils.
Where can you get the scan and what kind of scan did you get that told you the oils that you needed?
10 drops of orange works better than a cup of coffee. Put in large glass of water and enjoy.
I like to apply peppermint in the morning for an energizing start to my day. I like to diffuse Stress Away as I complete tasks throughout the day, I feel it helps me to stay motivated and alert without getting overwhelmed from my long to-do lists.
Rosemary and Spearmint, diffused, seem to help me tremendously!
Mind wise, nitro and good sleep are keys!!
I use several of your suggestions combined when I’m needing a pick me up mentally: drink an oz. or Ningxia Red, followed by 12oz of water, then inhale peppermint in my palms while taking a few moments of quiet to focus before jumping back into work. I feel that electronics/social media is a great tool, but also a mind-zapper, so when I do this little routine, I turn off all my gadgets for 30min at least.
I am new to YLEO. So far I am in love with my diffuser and Lavender. I suffer from Migraines a lot. Do any of you have suggestions on which oils help and how to use them? Thanks,
Heather
I find MGraine works amazingly well. I have found it to relieve my daughters migraines when all her scripts have failed — without side effects. I also use it for stress and sinus headaches. I apply it neat to my temples, forehead, crown, and back of neck. I’ve also applied it near my sinuses, as needed. Do not put it near your eyes. Good luck!
I’ve been trying to take a 20 minute power nap before the kids get home from school of I can squeeze it in. It seems to help a ton. I’ve never tried mind wise but maybe I should give it a whirl :-)
A great tip for staying sharp & alert is get off modern hybrid grains, switch to YL’s Einkorn grains, drink Ningxia Red, Nitro & MindWise instead of coffee! The brain will work so much better.
HI, I am new to YL, I have had ruptured cervical discs for over 2 years that cause a lot of pain and daily issues. I have never taken a prescription pain pill for it. I believe to stay mentall focused/sharp you need your senses to work in your favor, not be reduced by medicine. Awareness of yourself and your body is key to staying sharp. Using YL to relief symptoms is a perfect answer for me. I would love to try MindWise to help me with my efforts.
My favorite oil when I blew out a disc in my lower back was PanAway. My husband would massage it in every night, and I would be able to wake up without the throbbing pain! Then I would reapply throughout the day. That oil was a lifesaver!
Getting proper sleep and water help me – staying away from inflamation foods such as sugar –

When I had a “Zyto Scan” last month, it showed my most-needed oil was one I didn’t have and it was quite expensive, so I knew I wouldn’t be able to get it anytime soon. I just joined YL last month, so the only oils I have right now are the ones in my Starter Kit. So I checked the first 3 ingredients of my most-needed oil and found oils that had those ingredients in them. Two of them turned out to be Joy and Frankincense, which I had in my Starter Kit, so I started diffusing those two. WIthin a couple of days, I started noticing I had more energy and was feeling more sharp and alert at work! I’m now looking back to see what other oils my scan showed that I needed, so I can get started on them. I’m loving Young Living!!
Getting enough sleep, drinking enough water and eating healthy snacks is vital to mental clarity. Ningxia Red definitely helps me. And keeping anxiety and stress low with oils like Stress Away and Cedarwood. Vetiver seems to really help my daughter in school to pay attention and follow directions. I would love to see how Mindwise could benefit our family. Especially my brain fog with three kids under three!!
I try to avoid sugar and, instead, drink a big glass of lemon water–that, and avoiding multi-tasking as much as possible helps me to keep my focus…I’m a newbie with the essential oils, but I’m convinced they can have a strong part to play, too!
I am new to the Young Living family and cant wait to try these blends u recommend. I juice vegetables and fruits and I feel a good juice blend with greens and fruits really energizes me and makes my brain sharp. :)

I find taking a Nitro mid day keeps me focused to finish the day. It also replaces that afternoon coffee I was consuming before I found the Nitro!!!
I am new to YL and looking for good ideas for my husband, who is always tired and taking medication for that. I’d love to try the MindWise to see if it would help his tiredness and to focus more. Gong to order En-R-Gee this month to see how that helps. I just found the blogs, so thanks for all the ideas!
Thanks for all the great tips! In this world of multi-tasking, I find myself more productive and focused if I stay mindful and complete one thing at a time. When I start to feel overwhelmed, I use a drop or two of Grounding oil, take a minute to focus on my next action and then proceed. New to YLEO, I haven’t tried MindWise but look forward to it! Thanks.
Peppermint is my first go to when I need a lift. I also like Clarity to clear my head when I start feeling ‘foggy’. I have not yet experienced MindWise. Good to hear others comments on this.
Daily must have my Ningxia Red, Ningxia Nitro, and always diffuse one of the Young Living essential oils! So many good ones to choose from. I like to alternate oil daily.
Having just spending the days and nights in the hospital with my daughter for 21 days, I have been amazed at how much in overload we all are without realizing it. I am a special education teacher by profession. The workday is packed with multiple people, conversations, classes, technology, etc. After these 21 days I’ve become more convinced than ever we must protect ourselves health-wise in every way —- especially our CNS that intercepts all manner of input. My tip, regarding oils is Rosemary inhalation. Regarding my entire life, leaving no part unturned, physical, spiritual, or mental needs must be met.
Mindwise and other Oils have been such a Blessing to me and my husband who has suffered from PTSD from the Vietnam War and being based with the Army and Marines on the DMZ of North Vietnam. I am thankful for these products, including Mindwise, Clarity, Gathering, Brain Power and Vetiver which he is using. I would love to have another bottle of Mindwise since we are almost out and I am saving up to get the Freedom Release Kit once it is back in stock. Bless You Young Living!!!!
My favorite ways to stay alert are by applying Cedarwood to the back of my neck and take an ounce or two of NingXia Red if I’m going to class or work on-the-go. If I have more time I like to apply Grounding to my palms, inhale, and go for a short walk on our school’s nature trail.
The best way for me stay focused on what’s ahead, is to let go of what’s behind. A few moments of meditation coupled with inhalation of Stress Away does wonders for feelings of fatigue. Follow up with a drop of peppermint or valor, and I am ready to tackle what’s ahead!
My students love the peppermint diffused in the classroom. It helps keep them alert and focused, especially in the afternoon classes.
I just started using Mind Wise 4 days ago and have already noticed improvement. I feel it has curbed my appetite and I now prefer a cup of cinnamon hibiscus tea instead of coffee. I feel more alert and energized to tackle some to do lists I’ve been putting off.
I start my mornings with 16 oz water and usually add lemon or peppermint to hydrate. Ninxia red and Mind Wise in the morning as well. I just started diffusing Brain Power at work and am more productive. My coworker so loving it too! I had been using Ninxia Nitro in the afternoons but have not felt it necessary since using Mind Wise.
My mom is starting to loose some of her short term memory and I can’t wait for her to try Mind Wise too! She already uses and loves peppermint, common sense and Ninxia nitro. :)
I put a drop of clarity and/brain power on my brain stem every morning… I just started using MindWise and love it… Ningxia and Nitro together give me all day energy with no jitters and zero crashing!!! I only have to use 1/2 a tube of nitro, so that is a huge money saver for me… ;-)
I would love to win this. I actually went to go add it to my ER but the price was way more than I could spare right now. Im sure worth every penny tho! I diffuse peppermint when I need a pick me up. I have heard there are many more so im anxious to start getting more and more every month.
getting enough rest each night and daily meditation are essential to maintaining the calm alert mental state needed for busy schedules!
Staying sharp and alert during my busy day is a must; but not always easy to achieve. The first thing I have to do is remember to take care of “me” because it’s easy to take care of everyone else and forget. My day starts off with NingXia Red and since stopping the coffee habit I love a cup of warm water with Lemon. During the day at my office I diffuse an “oil of the day” and most days it’s Peppermint because it’s uplifting and energizing! A light drop of Peppermint in my warm water gives me a wonderful pick me up in the afternoon and to keep me calm and my blood pressure in tact during the stress of the day I roll on Ylang Ylang and Stress Away. Love these oils!
Diffusing Clarity as well as using it topically on temples, back of neck, and crown of head is a big help for me.
We have recently ordered Mindwise for my dad who has been diagnosed with Lewy Bodies Dementia. He is now on a daily regime of Mindwise, Ningxia Red, and Nitro! He has only been taking it for a week now but he is 78 years old and excited to have it! We can’t wait to see the benefits for him. He is very active but is seeing some signs of this dementia…for us Mindwise is hope for a higher quality of life for him! We diffuse Cedarwood at night for him as well as apply to his tootsie’s in the morning. En-R-Gee and Peppermint oils are helping him to start his day off bright eyed, sharper and more alert!
I start the day with prayer, meditation, and worship! Dont have mind wise..need to try it!
To get alert from the very early moments in the morning, I start my day with a glass of water and take my OmegaGize (so glad it’s back in stock now!), and then drink 2 ounces of NingXia Red combined with 4 ounces water. Like Sara, I also spend time in prayer and reading the Bible and some devotionals I get in my inbox, and then I make sure that I exercise. Throughout the day, I make sure I stay hydrated and have snacks so my blood sugar doesn’t go down.
Starting out the day with prayer and some good praise & worship music, along with my Valor, Brain Power, an of course Ningxia Red & Nitro! Looks like I will be adding the MindWise to that morning routine!
I think being and thinking positive also helps keep you alert and sharp. I like to diffuse an oil that helps release negative thoughts/emotions (joy, geranium, valor, etc)
I love the infused water idea! I have found that listening to classical music while at work has really made a difference. My favorite is Brain Power on my temples while diffusing Stress Away and Peppermint! But I believe I really need some MindWise!
After I put peppermint on back of neck, I take a few minutes to inhale what is left on my fingers. I cup my nose and inhale deeply. Very relaxing!
I have started to drink water with cucumbers, peppermint, and lemon oils. So refreshing and delicious! Would live to try mind wise…always looking for clarity! Thanks
I sip lemon and grapefruit oil in my water all day long. I sniff peppermint or add it to my wrists about mid afternoon. I will have to try it on the back of my neck as suggested in the other comments.
Wake up, shower and massage my scalp with rosemary while it is wet. Drink lemon in my water all day long. Diffuse lemon and peppermint in my USB diffuser! Thank you for these oils!
I diffuse peppermint and rosemary in the morning of homeschooling. It helps everyone be more awake and learning.
I FORCE myself to go to bed at a good time; I can always tell if I haven’t eaten–so I try to make sure that I’ve given my body (& my mind) fuel; if I know that it’s going to be a long, busy day with getting home late due to ballgames or whatever, I slip Peppermint in my purse (it seems to make the most difference for me when I put it at the back of my neck); and I try to rest (even if it’s for 10 mins in my vehicle waiting for kids to get out of school). Resting is a big factor for me as well. Thanks for all these tips!
To stay sharp and alert, I have one of the USB Diffusers in my vehicle and heavy equipment that I operate. I diffuse a combination of Purification and Peppermint. The Purification helps eliminate the odors of diesel, etc while in the heavy equipment and the Peppermint helps keep me alert. I also use Cedarwood at night time to help me get a good nights rest and in the am when I get up I drink 1 oz of Ningxia Red.
Thanks for the tips! I find that getting plenty of sleep is the biggest factor for me in keeping my mind sharp during the day. I am also looking forward to getting my first shipment of NingXia next week to add to that routine!
Good tips! Especially the ones to calm your mind. Makes a huge difference in how your day goes.
