I apply to my forehead and big toe and under my nose every night. Can hardly get my head down b4 falling asleep!
is there one place that has all of the essential oil uses on it?…without needing to buy a book
Hi Barbara! All product descriptions and usage information can be found on our website at https://www.youngliving.com/us/en/categorylanding/essential-oils. Thanks for stopping by!
I love the woody, sweet aroma of this oil. I add it to a body butter I make, and also add it to my oils for massage therapy. How can I download the infographic? I would love to have that on a posterboard in my massage office
Glad you loved our infographic Charlene! You can simply copy and paste the infographic into a Word (or similar software) document and print it out. However, many have commented that they like to make a larger version at a copy/ print store, so they can make the infographic larger and easier to read. Hope that helps!
what is the recipe that smells like baby powder?
I love this oils for emotional support. I also love it in my nightly diffuser blends. I like cedarwood, lavender, && vetiver. Sometimes I like to add valor with it.!😍😍❤️❤️ I hated cedarwood at first, now it’s one of my favorites!! It’s so refreshing and relaxing to me!🌲🌲
Diffuse at night with lavender. Also use in hair at night. So calming, sleep like a baby. One of my fave oils!!!
I put cedarwood on my just washed hair before blow drying and it goes in my diffuser at night along with peace and calming & lavender.
keeps cat litter odor down as well.
I was told not to use EO’ S around cat. You might want to see what your vet says . . .
i use it with lemon or thieves in my diffuser..smells soooo good and love it
Equal parts of cedarwood, thieves and pine in the diffuser are absolutely amazing!! A must!! I have also added orange to this combo. I use these four oils for hand soap and I love it!!
I make a beard oil for my husband (which doubles as a hair treatment for me bonus!). I also use it on my wool dryer balls as my hubby mentiined that the lavender made his clothes smell like flowers lol!
Chelsea, that is so awesome! Thanks so much for sharing this awesome advice and your ideas.
Can you please give us your recipe.
Another great article! Keep up the good work !
Can whoever mentioned about the oils that smelled like baby powder post it again please. I missed it.
And love the smell of baby powder.
Would love to know other recipes for deoderants/ And didnt i read somewhere that baking soda in one ingredient?
I think Gentle Baby smells like baby powder.
Gentle baby
Homemade Deodorant Recipe using Coconut Oil
1/3 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder
4 tablespoons cornstarch (this adds an antiperspirant effect)
Essential oils–try tea tree, sweet orange, lavender, frankincense, Rosemary, etc.
Warm the coconut oil to a liquid and whisk in the other ingredients.
You can pour the mixture into an empty deodorant container or into small mason jars. Some people have mentioned a reddening of the armpit, but I have found that if I pass the deodorant under warm water before applying, or if I wet my finger and apply a light layer there is no irritation or reddening. Baking soda can be a little rough on the skin.
For a firm deodorant that won’t ‘melt’ in the heat, you can add some beeswax
3 TBSP coconut oil
2 TBSP beeswax
2 TBSP baking soda
2 TBSP arrowroot
Essential oils
Melt beeswax and coconut oil in a pan or double boiler over low heat. Whisk in the baking soda and arrowroot powder. Remove pan from heat, and stir in essential oils. Add more if it isn’t fragrant enough for you. Pour into deodorant container. Leave uncapped for 24 hours or until cool. Then cap.
I recently tried diffusing Cedarwood, Lavender, and Vetiver, but my husband thinks Vetiver smells like a funeral home, so I tried Valor II as an alternative and it is a new favorite! Valor II was one of those oils that seemed too strong or potent to me by itself at first, but I love this combination. It has a fantastic scent that is relaxing, calming, and grounding in the evenings after work when I still need to get stuff done at home or when it is time to relax. (I also love Cedarwood in my homemade hand lotion!)
I place Cedarwood on my temples and forehead. It helps me to relax and then I fall asleep faster
I opened my cedar wood and it smells nothing like described. it’s an overpowering smell. at the time, I wondered if it was a bad oil or just a very strong oil.
I had gone to an oil party and smelled a cedar wood oil and it smells Great. Nothing like the one I have at home.
Has anyone experienced the same aroma?
I thought it smelled similar to a cat odor.
The first time I opened it I thought it smelled like cat pee too. It even gave me weird dreams about cats. I have grown to love it and now it doesn’t smell like that to/on me.
I thought the same thing ! Now it has become our favorite Oil :) LOVE IT just ordered more
Isn’t there evidence (or theory) that aromas you don’t like are actually what your body may be lacking?! I found that true of Lavender. Cedarwood still smells like barn hay or a petting zoo to me, but I’m optimistic!
Hi Emily, we recommend working with your healthcare provider for targeted advice on what your body may need. Thanks for stopping by!
Keep in mind that the oils in the bottle are extremely concentrated, so they will be strong! However, o ce you dilute them and/or pair them with another oil, the subtle scent is more of what you’re looking for. Also, other brands of essential oils likely have added synthetic fillers and fragrance, making them smell different-like other eo brands may have Peppermint that smells more sweet, like a candy cane, rather than actual peppermint. 😉
I use cedarwood nightly right before bed. It seems to have a very calming effect when I place a drop or two on the back of my head, directly on the spinal cord. I also have used it for my hair, by placing 2 drops in the crown of my head along with the same amount of Rosemary and Lavender.
I have read cedar oil is good for killing fleas on pets. Has anyone tried this?

Nancy, I have had 4 dogs, all of them have been given flea treats (fleatreats.com) and none of them have ever had fleas or ticks. Even this last year, which according to my vet, has been really bad for flears and ticks.
Nancy,
I don’t know if it kills fleas but I make a spray with lemongrass, thieves, cedarwood, lavender, peppermint, and a little witch hazel then top off the bottle with water. I spray his legs and belly before we go outside and it certainly does help repel the little buggers. This spring was bad in my area for ticks and I pulled 10 off in a span of about three weeks (I check him after every walk and none had latched on). I have only found two since I started using the spray. He’s not scratching and I don’t see any fleas at bath time so I definitely think it’s working. I do also use the flea/tick protection from his vet (Vectra) but only in March, July and October.
Hi Nancy, I have done a lot of reading and I made a spray with cedarwood oil for my family and the dog. And haven’t had an issue using it on my dog.
it is, but i’m not sure about the essential oils. I use a product from cedarcide
Awesome stuff thanks everyone for sharing.. Will all these comments fall someplace on this website like under a “recipe” page???
Just wondering as to what happens to all this great input once the promo on Cedarwood goes away..
Thanks again
Hey Michele! The approved comments will stay on the website even after the promo ends. You will be able to go back and read them whenever you want. Hope that helps and thanks for stopping by!
Hi, I love cedarwood, except in my scalp, it stings!
The infographic recommends that you dilute it with coconut oil. I applied it to my face neat once and discovered it can be a little prickly on the skin too!
I use it on my scalp, it doesn’t stink but gives me a refreshed tingling feeling for about 5 minutes. Love the aroma, especially when I go to bed at night with it on.
I use cedar wood in my diffuser with a few drops of Jade Lemon. Also, I put a few drops in my palm and rub in into my dogs coat as it makes him smell yummy.
I use cedar wood as a perfume! Love the smell 😊
I use cedarwood practically every day…6-8 drops, along with bergamot, frankincense or eucalyptus in my bath water…diffuse with a couple drops of lavender or patchouli at bedtime. I love its clean woody scent…not overpowering at all!
I’m definitely going to try the diffuser recipe in the info graphic tonight! Thanks for the tip!
I am curious how it is harvested?
Hi Stacy, Cedarwood essential oil is distilled from the bark! Thanks for stopping by with your question!
I use it for sleep every night along with bergamont and citrus fresh and sometimes perppermint in my diffuser. I sleep like a baby. 😊
I use a mix of cedarwood, vetiver and lavender as a “boogyman” spray for my children. It helps them to fall asleep quickly and sleep soundly brought the night. Cedarwood is a necessity in our home ❤
I use Cedarwood every other day, 2 drops, into my shampoo to help with irritating dry flakes in 2 specific areas of my scalp. I have been using this regime for over 3 weeks with no results. Help!
Also, I use Cedarwood with coconut oil on my underarms for a fresh scent without needing deodorant on a light activity day. It smells amazing and lasts!
This info grapic states it moisturizes hair not scalp. I’d be interested in knowing about something gor the scalp too.
I find that using cedarwood along with lavender or geranium or all three after washing my hair with YL Lavender shampoo helps with the appearance of healthy-looking hair. Typically 2-4 drops of each directly to scalp after showering and rubbing in.
I would try a little tea tree oil for the scalp or put in your shampoo.
I put 50 drops of Cedarwood and 50 drops of Idaho Balsam Fir in a bottle with a roller. Wow…it sure supports mental acuity and overall calmness for me! I put it on my temples, top of head and across my forehead.
Tristan, first of all, I don’t know which shampoo you are using. The problem could be right there. Secondly, our hair is part of whole us. You need to address your whole self to get results anywhere in you.
I prefer using Copaiba shampoo and conditioner.
I just diffused 3 drops of cedarwood, 2 drops of palo santo and one drop of clove and the aroma is invigorating and inspiring!
Can’t help but wonder if I am allergic to Mountain Cedar, is this an oil I should avoid?
Hi Sandra, We suggest consulting with your healthcare provider to determine if Cedarwood would be a good option for you. Thanks for stopping by with your question!
You should consider doing a patch test to see if you have a counter reaction
Just tried your Diffuser recipe above… wow! Smells like baby powder! 😁
I loooove cedar wood. I just recently made my own roller perfume and I mixed cedar wood, orange, and geranium, it smells delicious. I just love cedarwood.
Would you tell me what proportions you used of each for your perfume roll on?
Thanks
What does it do when you add it to your mascara?
That may be too close to your eyes. You want to avoid getting any essential oil in your eyes.
Pat,
I didn’t know about cedarwood & mascara until now. I’ve been using lavender in my primer & mascara for a long time now. It conditions the lashes & adds extra moisture to the products.
Its great for storing clothing. Keeps them smelling fresh.
Cedarwood is very effective for ridding one’s pantry and/or closet of moths.
It is also an excellent sleep aid.
I see a lot of you are putting the Cedarwood and Lavender in your mascara. Could you please explain the benefit to me? Im new to EO and trying to learn all I can.
Diana,
From my experience, cedarwood and lavender in mascara helps to strengthen lashes and it also kills the mites on our lashes. Yes, it’s gross, but true. We have tiny mites that live on our eyelashes. I googled it and then immediately added drops of both in my mascara. Welcome to the world of essential oils! You will love it!
Diana,
I haven’t done cedarwood & lavender in my mascara, just lavender for a long time now. I hadn’t heard about using cedarwood until now. Lavender is supposed to help condition your lashes, plus it adds extra moisture to the mascara to help from drying out.
Caution. I would strongly advise against using any essential oils in mascara or around the eye. Mascara is usually made of petrochemicals. Essential oils break down plastics and petrochemicals. This is why you should only use essential oils in glass, not plastic. Why play chemist with a product, such as mascara, that you wear all day on your sensitive eye area.
I just hosted my first make and take class and we used Cedarwood for – scrubs/bath salts and room sprays the men loved it just as much as the ladies did!
what was your roomspray recipe?
RIGHT NOW MY CHOICE FOR MY OVERNIGHT DIFFUSER IS CEDARWOOD AND ORANGE AND SOME NIGHTS I ADD A DROP OR TWO OF VALOR II – IT SMELLS SO GOOD AND I SLEEP LIKE A BABY!!!
I love reading all these great stories!! I will be trying the cedarwood for my hair.
I love Cedarwood for my hair. I also love to put some on my temples and base of my neck. Grateful for Young Living’s Cedarwood and it’s a good price too!!!!
What does the Cedawood do for your temples and the back of your neck.?
Debbie, I love putting oils on top head, back of neck, and on the temples daily…. top of head has a reflex point. I love thinking of a reflex point as a train station and the nerves (which are small blood vessels) that are connected at that point, are like the train tracks. So putting it on the point, it sends oils to more than one track. Then to learn how an oil might work, check the Desk Reference…. to see if it is calming, or whatever else. And different people have different preferences for the same oils. Putting oils on back of neck, is like putting oils on a short part of the spine…
