Authentically Canadian. Universally loved.
Breathe deep. Northern Lights Black Spruce essential oil is a mix of crisp uplifting scents and woodsy comfort to calm your mind and inspire deep meditation. This beloved Canadian oil reflects the character of the trees from which it is derived, echoing their resilient, deeply rooted strength. Strength enhanced by the natural challenges of the environment, to grow ever taller and dignified, reaching upward to the energy of the dancing northern lights in the sky.
Tucked away in the isolated boreal forests of British Columbia, the Northern Lights Farm has been producing Northern Lights Black Spruce essential oil since 2015. The farm was a labour of love for Canada’s Royal Crown Diamonds, Ben and Carol Howden and their family. They worked tirelessly, in frigid temperatures, alongside Young Living Founder D. Gary Young to give the world a source of black spruce essential oil that was untouched by synthetic chemicals and fertilizers. Cory Howden, now the Northern Lights Farm Manager, carries on that legacy.
The Northern Lights Farm is just one of Young Living’s 16 global farms, and numerous partner and Seed to Seal® certified farms, committed to the highest standard of purity and authenticity. Every winter, during Winter Harvest, members can experience YL’s unique Seed to Seal process first-hand, harvesting and distilling with deep gratitude for nature’s living energy!
As our uniquely home-grown oil, we’re sharing a few reasons why we love Northern Lights Black Spruce!

Just beautiful!!!! I’m impressed by this infographic! Well done!!! Most importantly, I’m impressed and proud of our all Canadian NLBS!!
diffuse it with orange or lavander and enjoy the calming aromas! Also is uplifting when
applied topically, diluted
Loving all the info I am finding on your blog! Being Canadian I especially loved reading this post!!
I love diffusing it alone when I practice yoga, or most recently, with Thieves! It’s a great combo.
I also love it when my partner applies it to his beard.
It’s one of my favorite oils…hands down..and I am from Canada, which makes it even more special.
Thank you YL!!
I think of what the black spruce trees endure, temperature-wise. There is an innate strength in them. So when I need emotional support and a confident feeling, I apply this oil to my solar plexus, heart and wrists. I feel uplifted and ready to take on anything!
I love the feel of NBS when I’m having a down day and just need a hug. NBS is like a hug from the forest.
NLBS and Copaiba for my sore neck. Very relaxing and soothing to the muscles.
I use a lot of northern lights black spruce in my home. It is usually in at least 1 of my diffusers. My favorite blend is equal parts NLBS pepermint and rc. It is so fresh and clean. It’s smells like the outdoors.
Wonderful information on Northern Lights Black Spruce – I am so happy having just returned from the Northern Lights Aromatic Farm where I had the chance to experience the whole Seed to Seal Process – from cutting the Black Spruce Trees, to seeing them put into chips, transferred to the distillery, put into the cooker where we stomped to press them down and then seeing the first drops of oil coming out was so touching and amazing – thanks to you leader Fee making this possible and even more thanking all the wonderful people over there in Fort Nelson putting up with our questions and “help” for the process. And seeing the last evening the Northern Lights – this beautiful energy going into that oil is beyond words – thanks I’ll come again, Brigite from Germany
Love diffusing it with orange and putting it on the bottom of my feet to group myself
We love it on dryer balls, in beard oil and body wash, diffuse it when we sleep and diluted in a roll on for a quick mood change. It’s just the best smelling of all the oils, like an Enchanted Forrest ❤️
Love that this farm is in our beautiful British Columbia and so close to home! I can’t wait to visit it one day 🌲 Northern lights is the best for a good night. I love to mix it with lavender in my diffuser. 💕
I love diffusing it with orange. I also love to put it on the bottom of my feet to help ground me.
