I have a friend that has a one year old grandchild. Somebody gave her a Stuffed Scentsy Buddy which has a zipper pouch to hold a Scent Pack. My friend is worried the Scent Pack and would like to put lavender on a cotton ball in the pouch. Do you think that would be safe?
Hi Cassandra, We recommend following the usage instructions and dilution ratios listed on the label of the specific bottle you intend to use. Although we do recommend extreme caution when using essential oils for children, through our research and 20+ years of experience, we have found that essential oils can be safe and beneficial for people of all ages. However, due to the extreme sensitivities of children and the fact that individual reactions will vary, we do not have a list of specific oils that can/cannot be used with children available to provide. We suggest consulting a health care provider to determine what is right for your grandchild. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi, I’ve a 1 month old baby. I love and usually diffuse “Stress Away” oil in my room during bedtime, my baby is sharing the same room with us. May I know the content of Stress Away whether is it safe to use for my baby and I should limit to diffuse 5 minutes only & 3 times a week?
Hi Caris, To safeguard the health of your children, the essential oils should not be diffused in their immediate proximity or for long periods of time without the prior consent of a pediatric physician. We also suggest diffusing a small amount of essential oil for short periods of time until you have determined if your children have any sensitivity to diffusing. Thanks for stopping by with your question!

Hello, I have a very premature baby. He was born at 25 weeks. He is now 5 months old but really only 7 weeks. He is pretty colicky sometimes and was wondering if its just too early to use anything for him? I just purchased the essential oil starter kit with diffuser. Any help would be appreciated.

I’m looking for a combination of oils to help my almost 3 yr old son’s eczema. I found a recipe online for lavendar, frankincense, coconut oil and shae butter. I’m wondering if Elemi could be substituted, since it’s in the same family as frankincense?

What about Gentle Baby – is that okay to diffuse in the nursery of a 2 month old?
Please tell me more how to use thieves on a 4 years kid. I blended 1:6, mainly applied on hands, legs and neck areas. But my parents said thieves EO still harmful to kid.

I am about to have a newborn and looking for Baby Wash and Lotions. The YL website does not show any products although I have seen them on other blogs, etc. Where can I buy these products?
Hi Amanda, Our KidScents line of products can be viewed on our website here.
I use lemon, lavender, stress away blend from YL, peppermint and tea tree oils…
I usually diffuse the lemon and stress away, use peppermint as a diluted spray for cleaning and air purification, as it keeps spiders and other bugs away from the baby’s areas, and tea tree oil (diluted, with a carrier or mixed a few drops with adults shampoo/body wash) to keep clean and control any dermatological issues like dandruff, excema, etc…I have more stuff but the baby is teething and wants to be picked up! <3
I am seeing a lot of moms suggesting thieves (diluted) for teething babies on their gums. Wouldn’t that lead to ingestion? Or is it ok since its diluted?
Hi Myrna, We recommend following the usage directions as listed on the label and speaking with a health care provider about the use of diluted Thieves® with children before beginning use. Thanks for stopping by with your question.
Hi, my girl is 3 years old and currently she is having flu, cough and having phelgm which oil can I apply on her together with v6 ? And my baby is 5 mths old sleeping together with my 3 years old girl which EO I should diffuse? Thanks

Hi, there’s a great product from Slumber Wunders, called Slumber Belly. We have used it and it really works. My mom used to put an onion in the crib (which also really works) but I prefer the smell of eucalyptus. It’s a bunny which holds a pillow pouch in its tummy. The pouch you infuse with a Eucalyptus which has been specially developed for babies and toddlers and then insert it into the bunny’s belly. When your girl is ok you can infuse a different pouch with lavender. They sell it on Drugstore.com. I have not seen it on Amazon.
I know you shouldn’t diffuse in a close proximity (does this mean not in the same room or just simply away from where the baby is sleeping and playing)? Additionally, what is the best oil to use to help a baby with congestion (8 month old)- thieves, lavender (again, I know to use all with caution)?
Hi Ashley, To safeguard the health of your children, the essential oils should not be diffused in their immediate proximity or for long periods of time without the prior consent of a pediatric physician. We also suggest diffusing a small amount of essential oil for short periods of time until you have determined if your children have any sensitivity to diffusing.

How many drops should be used in a 10 ml roller for a baby (9 months)?
Hi Gabrielle, The dilution recommendation for children ages 0-1 is one eighth the labeled concentration. We recommend referring to the individual label directions for any age restrictions as well. Essential oils should be diluted for use on children. We suggest using a patch test procedure prior to ensure the oil is properly diluted for the child. To perform a patch test, apply 1-2 drops of EO to a patch of skin such as the forearm. If you have additional concerns regarding the use of the essential oils for your little one, please be sure to speak with your health professional for personalized guidance.
I co-sleep with my baby and I’m wondering if it’s safe to diffuse emotional blends such as release and joy around her? She is 8 months old. So far, I’ve diffused peace and calming and lavender for long hours around her because I didn’t know better, but she is fine.
Hi Stephanie, Many essential oils can be safely used around and for children. Please always follow the directions and safety guidelines on each individual product label. When diffusing an oil new to the child, we suggest diffusing a small amount for short periods of time until you have determined if she has any sensitivity to the oil. If you have further questions regarding diffusing essential oils around your baby, we suggest speaking with a health professional for guidance.
I would advise against diffusing Release because it contains a carrier (olive) oil. Inhaling fatty oils into the lungs can lead to lipoid/lipid pneumonia. For example, there have been cases that occurred when children aspirated mineral oil that was administered orally for constipation. It would be fine to diffuse a couple drops of Joy because only essential oils (which contain no fat) are listed as ingredients in that blend. Gentle Baby is an even better option, as it is designed especially for babies.
Hi. I guess my 2,3, 7 years old sons have a parasites. Can I use any oils for them? Which one and hove many?

Hi Iryna, Sorry to hear about your little ones! We suggest reviewing our KidScents® products and other products for possible solutions. Please discuss these possibilities further with a health care provider for recommendations for this specific concern.

My Grandchildren love, love the oils. Their favorites are orange and lemon.
Hi, I use Lavender, Frankincense, Gentle Baby, Joy, RC, Copaiba and a few others.😍 Love them!
Hi, I mixed an essential oil with a carrier to apply on my 14 months old son’s feet. I wonder how much I should apply. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Hi Ruth, Thank you for your question. Please refer to the label for usage directions and any age restrictions. what do you consider a short period of a time for a child age 1 who is starting?
Hi Wendy, great question! An appropriate amount of time would be up to 5 minutes 1-3 times daily.
what is considered immediate proximity? Same Room? In the same house?
is it recommended to dilute the oils only when you are putting them on the baby or also when you are diffusing them? I am new at using oils and I am not comfortable with putting them on my 3 month old until he is a little older but I was wondering if its safe to use in a diffuser.

Could you please tell me what is the mechanism of action to why the above essential oils are not recommended in younger children. I know all essential oils are concentrated and need dilution, but for example is peppermint not recommended because high in menthol that can cause respiratory distress?
Hi Cece, Some individuals choose to use extra caution with Idaho Tansy, Hyssop, Sage, Clary Sage, Wintergreen, and Eucalyptus oils as they may be challenging to a young child’s sensitive system. This information is based on several factors including their constituents and the possibility of skin sensitivity. If you have additional concerns regarding the use of the essential oils for your little one, please be sure to speak with your health professional for personalized guidance.
Excellent information!thanks for your sharing.
Hi thank you for sharing this great information. I would like to know if peppermint is ok to use on infants of course diluted. My daughters doctor said that peppermint slows down the breathing.

Thieves is my absolute favorite because its so versatile.
Greetings,
Can you please share with me the email address of your marketing director? I have some information I would like to share with them.
Thanks and Merry Christmas,
Jim Keller

We love Copaiba oil for our babies. Very soothing.
How would it be used? I have Copaiba but haven’t used it.
I love to put the Gentle Baby blend and Lavender on my kids’ feet before bed.
This is excellent information! I am not a Mom and honestly forget about some of these issues. Having these fantastic reminders and a list of what oils to keep away from children in one spot is perfect. And the ratio graphic…I love it! Thank you so much for sharing this!
I love the smell of Thieves! I apply it diluted on the feet of my children.
This blog mentions that you should avoid using blends with the oils listed. One of those oils is Blue Tansy which is found in the Kidscents Shampoo and Tender Tush. Does this mean you shouldn’t use these products on children under 2 yrs old?
Hi Margaret, Blue Tansy is no longer included as an ingredient in KidScents® Tender Tush or Shampoo as the products were recently redesigned for increased sustainability and performance. Thanks for stopping by with your question.
I have loved using Lavender with my babies! I’ve also been so thankful for the Thieves Household Cleaner. We use so many oils every day around here, but for my babies, Lavender has always been my favorite!
Thanks so much for making this info available!
Excellent information! Essential oils are so wonderful for children! This is a great guideline graphic to hold onto!
Some great suggestions above especially for those nervous mommies!
I love Young Living Lavender and Sacred Frankincense for my happy baby. Thanks for the reminder for how powerful the oils are. It is important to know which ones to stay away from for the kids. Also how to safely dilute with carrier oil for the essential oils with children.
I use oils for my baby every day: Cedarwood, Lemon, Orange, Roman Chamomile, Lavender and Copaiba are my go-to’s.
One additional question: the last statement in the purple box…
Does that mean me wearing it would help them get used to it?
Hi Shelly, That’s exactly what it means. Thanks for stopping by with your question!
Thank you for posting!
I am in home childcare and am currently teaching my families about Young Living. They seem to be very open to what the oils have to offer.
Lavender, Frankincense, Lemon, Cedarwood and Copaiba are my must haves for my little ones. Also anything in the tea tree family, especially the Manuka available right now -love!
I use Lavender, Orange, Stress Away and Peace & Calming a lot with my little one :)
Do you have any recommendations for a 5 month old who is teething? I know I need to dilute when topically but I’ve been trying to find something for his teething and I’ve heard clove oil is not good to be ingested that young even diluted. I’m new to essential oils somewhat, used them for about a year but not to often, now that I got my starter kit and have copaiba, I was wondering if you had any advice on this oil for teething as I know that young living can not provide such advice to protect themselves from legal issues. My baby is in pain and I don’t know how to help besides teethers but he gets mad at them. (Lol) I would really appreciate any advice/recommendations on any oil for teething baby

We use Lavender daily with our active kiddos! Ruby (3 years) loves her KidScents oils too, all ready to use with the roll-on tops. She thinks she is such a “big girl”! Vinny (18 months) also loves his oils and will belly flop on the couch to have his neck, back and feet oiled :)
I have a 3 month old grandson and he has been an “oily baby” from the time he was born. My daughter used Young Living Essential Oil throughout her pregnancy and immediately following. We anointed him with Frankincense shortly after his birth. I made all his baby products using YL essential oils Lavender and Gentle Baby. Those items included baby wipes, baby powder, baby oil, and baby wash. He is a healthy and happy baby! She also uses the KidScents products which are absolutely amazing! Our whole family incorporates YL oils everyday in our lives and absolutely love them!!! They are amazing!! Thank you Young Living and Gary and Mary Young!
An excellent yet simple post!
Thank you!
I was reading that Eucalyptus and Rosemary shouldn’t be used on kids under 10 and Peppermint shouldn’t be used on kids under age 6. Is this true?

It is good to incorporate the entire family, especially the children, in the use of essential oils. With our family, it is a lifestyle. A part of our life!
Thanks for this post-I get a lot of questions from people regarding using oils with their little ones!
