Boasting a rich, ancient history, Cedarwood essential oil is as versatile as its woody, warm, and calming aroma. Referred to in the Bible as the Cedar of Lebanon, one of the oldest known aromatics, cedarwood is exceptionally rich in aromatic compounds and can be used in everything from your hair care routine to helping create a refreshing atmosphere in your home, making it a great, all-rounder option to start off with when introducing oils into your everyday life and routine. To help you get to grips with Cedarwood essential oil, we’ve listed some of our favourite ways to use it below.

3. Soften the appearance of your skin
As with your hair during the winter months, your skin is often in need of a little extra attention. Cedarwood is known for its excellent skin-cleansing properties, and so is ideal for those who want to maintain the appearance of youthful-looking skin that’s well moisturised and conditioned. Add a drop or two to your favourite body lotion or facial moisturiser and enjoy its woody, balsamic aroma as part of your skincare routine.
4. Add a spa-like dry-brushing technique to your bath time routine
Recently, the practice of dry brushing has been gaining popularity, thanks to its abilities in leaving users with exfoliated, super soft skin. It consists of brushing the skin in a particular pattern, usually towards the heart, with a dry brush before showering or taking a bath. Why not spruce up your dry brushing experience by adding 3-4 drops of Cedarwood essential oil, helping you to soothe dry skin, loosen and remove dead skin cells, and clear excess oil from your pores.
5. Create your signature scent
Cedarwood essential oil acts as a great base note when it comes to creating DIY perfumes at home. We suggest combining it with a middle note such as Ylang Ylang or Jasmine and a top note such as Lavender or Bergamot for a sublime scent that will soon become your favourite, go-to perfume. In order to create your perfect fragrance, you’ll need the following supplies:
- One empty 5 ml essential oil bottle
- Young Living V-6® Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex
- AromaGlide Roller Fitment
- A chosen top note essential oil (e.g. Lime, Tangerine, Grapefruit, Bergamot, Orange, Basil, Lavender, Thyme, Jade Lemon, Cinnamon Bark or Coriander)
- A chosen middle note essential oil (e.g. Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Jasmine or Rose)
- Cedarwood essential oil for the base note
- A label, if desired
Instructions:
1. Combine 10-15 drops of each of your selected oils in the empty bottle until your essential oil is balanced and you’re happy with the scent.
2. Fill the rest of the bottle with Young Living V-6® Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex
3. Put the roller fitment and cap on.
4. Add a label if desired.
5. Roll on to your neck, wrists or anywhere you’d typically apply perfume.
