Spring Break is full of photo opportunities! Times when you’ll head outdoors with your family and friends to celebrate the warming weather. Check out our top seven tips on how to capture the moment with the perfect selfie.
1. Prep Your Canvas
Before the cameras start flashing, start the day off right with the right beauty products! Use the ART® Skin Care System while getting ready to look your most radiant for all your outdoor activities and photos. Remember to add a bright lip color just before you get snapping.
2. Make Things Interesting
The best selfies offer something for the audience. Give your viewers something to look at or something to laugh about. Bring some personality to your photo, but make sure to keep it natural—avoid fake smiles and staged poses. A picture is worth a thousand words, so make them count!
3. Good Lighting is Your Best Friend
Lighting plays a key role in the outcome of a perfect photo, and selfies are no exception. Make sure to capture your selfie in well-lit areas with as much natural light as possible. Try to position yourself so that the light is in front of you to avoid shadows on the face.
4. Do a Quick Background Check
Great selfies often feature a great backdrop that gives your audience the inside scoop on where you are and what you’re doing. Your viewers would much rather see a pretty background or a neutral wall instead of a bathroom toilet or a room full of laundry.
5. Know Your Angles
It’s important to know your angles, because looking into a camera isn’t like looking into the mirror. Practice and play around with different poses to see what angles turn out to be most flattering to you. Try holding your device stretched away from your body, a little above eye level with your head slightly tilted to one side. That way your chin and cheekbone are visible, ensuring a slimming angle and a grade-A selfie.
6. Take Plenty of Photos and Pick a Winner
We all know that professional photographers take hundreds of photos only to narrow them down to a few golden shots, so why shouldn’t you? Just make sure you’ve got enough memory in your smartphone so you really get the one you want. Like other great photographers, remember to only share a few of your best shots—posting selfies sparingly will create the biggest impact.
7. Edit
The right photo-editing app can make a huge difference in how your final picture turns out. Don’t be afraid to apply a filter to your photo to make it more flattering! Instagram has the basics, but there are tons of other apps and tools out there that can help you get rid of the little blemish on your nose or even add a Cindy Crawford-esque mole.

Honestly, my tip is to just do it if you’re scared or don’t like pics of yourself. It’ll be a great boost for your confidence and allow room for others to leave positive comments and encouragement. People like to see you! Be encouraging yourself for others who fear the selfie!! ❤️
Put your tongue to the roof of your mouth when you smile. Helps slim and firm under your chin.
Be sure that your eyes are looking at the camera and not off at a reflection.
Love this! I love snapping pics with my hubby and kids!
Good lighting! Pick a good background color. I would love to win!
Selfies are so fun, thanks for a couple tips I didn’t think about!! Our whole family has the best time trying to get all of us the picture…..and the Art Skin Care System looks pretty amazing :)
Be happy with your appearance! And keep it natural.
I’d love to win! And selfie sticks, while silly, are actually very helpful!
I would LOVE to get the ART skin care system! It’s one thing I haven’t had the chance to try yet!!
Brush your teeth with Thieves Aromabright toothpaste so you don’t get caught with something stuck in between those pearly whites. Don’t want to ruin a great picture with that.
One tip that I recommend is that you should always have a selfie stick even if you look crazy using it. Not everyone has long arms like my boyfriend lol.
Probably the best tip for a selfie would be to actually want to take a photo of yourself. Be comfortable in front of the camera when you are the subject of the photo.
Just be yourself and confident when taking a selfie! Best pictures are taken when you feel good :)
love this! I’ve been wanting to try the Art Skin Care System! :)
I am very self conscious of my appearance and not good at taking selfies as I think I am looking wrong at the camera. I have been using the Art Skin Care System and love it! I get more compliments now that I use it and I will take these tips to heart and get to know my angles! I will start playing with the filtering options too. Thank you for posting this to help me get over my fear of getting a photo of myself!
I have found using a selfie clicker works great too so your hand stays steady on the phone without having to move your finger to snap the picture.
Don’t be a selfie over-poster!
Get yourself a case that has a light! The case lights are so much better for low light shots. Also try a Young Living lip gloss and oil roll on combo. The colors will give your lips a little extra umph!! Finally, never pull your head back or tuck your chin into your chest. For the best definition of your jaw Line your want to emphasize your neck and stick your chin out slightly. :)
Make sure everyone knows where to look into the camera! Taking selfies can be challenging because you’re looking at yourself, but in order to get the best selfie you need to not look at yourself in the selfie cam but at the actual camera on the phone instead!
Great tips! Definitely want to try the ART product line!
Great selfie tips! I think all selfies look better when you add in another person! I would love to try the ART system!
Oh boy, I sure do appreciate these tips. I thought I’d have to talk with my grandson about taking selfies because I attempted a couple of them and they weren’t so good :D
Get a little tripod and remote. It has made a huge difference in our selfies and I found one online for less than $10!
I know when I take a selfie nothing bothers me more than finding out my hair isn’t straigthened out and is a mess, my lip gloss is gone so I make sure I take a few seconds and run the comb through my hair and touch up my lips with some L Brianté™ Lip Gloss !!! It does wonders to spend the few seconds to comb through the hair and add precious color to your lips! Also a touch of that wonderful essential oil attached to the other end of the lip gloss does wonders to brighten your mood and add a genuine smile to that picture!!
I have been DYING to try the Art system! Ps, I love reading this blog. Can’t wait to get some Pure Protein to start making yummy breakfast smoothies!!
Using a selfie stick.
I have everyone make sure they say cheese wiz! Smile and show those beautiful teeth!
One of my selfie tricks is if its a group picture have the tallest person take the picture. If its just me I’ll angle the phone so its in a diamond shape.
Not sure if this is a tip or not but don’t take so many selfies that they aren’t special anymore. Use them sparingly and smile!
Would love to try it! My skincare needs a refresh!
Thanks for the tips! Love my Art Renewal serum!
Check your teeth! 😁
Use a relaxed, natural facial expression. Duck face, pouting, or sticking out your tongue will not be appealing in a few years (or now, to many people)! Real smiles never go out of style!
I typically recommend a higher angle on the photo. Looking up at the camera helps smooth neck lines and reduce the risk of a double chin. Unless your backdrop is part of what you want to show, try to find a simple, non-distracting one. A key to editing a photo well is to make it bright enough without washing out the colors.
I always like to think about the background and take a pause to ge the best picture.
Remember to include items to commemorate the occasion such as: at a ball game… include the scoreboard or crowd cheering; on a road trip… include road signs or choice of transportation or location… maybe a map; shopping… items looking at to purchase or dreaming of… name of store… home or car that you are considering; hanging out at home… include something that you are doing while hanging at home; working… swing your chair around and include your desk, oils, subject of your work or your computer screen in your background. Another words… be creative in creating a story for your selfie to tell ;-)
I am slowly learning more and more about the benefits of essential oils. I just ordered my starter kit this week and can’t wait for it to arrive! Would love to win skin care products as I love using natural products in all areas of my life!
Think about things that bring joy to your life (ie kids, family, essential oils, being outdoors) it enhances facial expressions and body posture. It brings life into you eyes.
Selfie stick!
Use the volume buttons on an iPhone to snap the picture…makes it easier to take the pic one-handed.
Great tips! I don’t normally take many self-esteem but when I do its normally my kids and I doing something goofy.
I love using a “selfie stick” to get a great angle on my pic! Thanks for the tips!!
This is more a tip for editing than for taking the actual picture, but it’s still excellent advice. Make sure the size/resolution of the original image is as large as possible. You can easily make a large photo smaller, but it’s tough to make a small photo bigger while still maintaining quality. When you enlarge a photo too much, it gets distorted and blurry/pixelated. Also, if you can resize your images in a program that lets you lock the dimensions (like Photoshop), it will help keep your photo from becoming distorted from stretching.
We do the higher camera and angled face… And the backdrop helps!!!!
Look for interesting backgrounds as well! That’s my tip!
I’m not a big “selfie taker”, but I find they become a lot of fun when I do them with one of my sons or my daughter. Being with my kids takes the focus off of me and I can relax.
Love this blog post :) I’d also love a chance to win the ART skin care system!!! #younglivingrocks
I love YL skin products! Can’t wait to try the ART system!
Love this💙 I am horrible at selfies needed some tips!
I love these tips! A tip for taking selfies with your kids. Sometimes kids don’t like to cooperate when having their photo taken. They act adorable, and then as soon as the camera goes up, they frown or act way too silly. In our family, we like to take a goofy pic first so the kids can get into it, and then we take the normal pic with just a smile. Mama always wants the photo where the kids are smiling and looking at the camera, but let’s face it, we all end up choosing the goofy one, don’t we?!
Sounds exciting!
Love this little tutorial especially the “know your angles” good one!
I has been a while since I flattered my look with the Art Skin Care System –
but I am sure it would help much.
