Spring Break is full of photo opportunities! Times when you’ll head outdoors with your family and friends to celebrate the warming weather. Check out our top seven tips on how to capture the moment with the perfect selfie.
1. Prep Your Canvas
Before the cameras start flashing, start the day off right with the right beauty products! Use the ART® Skin Care System while getting ready to look your most radiant for all your outdoor activities and photos. Remember to add a bright lip color just before you get snapping.
2. Make Things Interesting
The best selfies offer something for the audience. Give your viewers something to look at or something to laugh about. Bring some personality to your photo, but make sure to keep it natural—avoid fake smiles and staged poses. A picture is worth a thousand words, so make them count!
3. Good Lighting is Your Best Friend
Lighting plays a key role in the outcome of a perfect photo, and selfies are no exception. Make sure to capture your selfie in well-lit areas with as much natural light as possible. Try to position yourself so that the light is in front of you to avoid shadows on the face.
4. Do a Quick Background Check
Great selfies often feature a great backdrop that gives your audience the inside scoop on where you are and what you’re doing. Your viewers would much rather see a pretty background or a neutral wall instead of a bathroom toilet or a room full of laundry.
5. Know Your Angles
It’s important to know your angles, because looking into a camera isn’t like looking into the mirror. Practice and play around with different poses to see what angles turn out to be most flattering to you. Try holding your device stretched away from your body, a little above eye level with your head slightly tilted to one side. That way your chin and cheekbone are visible, ensuring a slimming angle and a grade-A selfie.
6. Take Plenty of Photos and Pick a Winner
We all know that professional photographers take hundreds of photos only to narrow them down to a few golden shots, so why shouldn’t you? Just make sure you’ve got enough memory in your smartphone so you really get the one you want. Like other great photographers, remember to only share a few of your best shots—posting selfies sparingly will create the biggest impact.
7. Edit
The right photo-editing app can make a huge difference in how your final picture turns out. Don’t be afraid to apply a filter to your photo to make it more flattering! Instagram has the basics, but there are tons of other apps and tools out there that can help you get rid of the little blemish on your nose or even add a Cindy Crawford-esque mole.

My pictures are never great! I will try your suggestions!
Take multiple photos and choose from the best! And chin up so you don’t have multiples like me :)
new to Young Living and anxious to try out all of my new stuff. About to go on my honeymoon (cruise) in 18 days and will be definitely taking some selfies :)
I have the hardest time taking selfies lol. Maybe I need the art system to help. 😜
My experiences with taking selfies , especially when over 50 is to have the camera at an angle where u have to look up at the camera and not down, makes for a more flattering picture.
Check and double check your background to make sure things aren’t sticking out behind your head.
The biggest tip I have is to be confident in who you are and take selfies to document your own journey- not to impress others or put up a front. Love life and have fun!
Thank you for the selfie tips! Love the ART skincare line! Best products ever!
Don’t take TOO many selfies! I think people start tuning you out if you do!
I like to take pictures with the camera above looking down. It helps to make my face look thinner and avoids the double chin look.
My best tip is don’t take yourself too seriously!! Enjoy yourself and SMILE!
My tip is to add a cat. Any selfie is better with a cat.
My best advice for taking a selfie is to just relax and not try too hard. Over smiling or staring your face can make it appear in-genuine. Just have fun!!!!
Stick out your chin slightly if you need to fix a double chin. And always check your background – especially if you sell a product – always think about branding! I would love to try the Art Skin Care System!
Stick your forehead out a bit, it actually helps your chin to go the right direction as well— and keeps the double chins from appearing. :)
Avoid having your arm lifted, holding the cell phone as much as possible. I have seen selfies with sweaty arm pits showing – Not Pretty!!! You can avoid this fairly easily with practice. I would love to try the ART skin care system, should I be lucky enough to win. Loving Young Living.
Overhead lighting is the worst! Make sure the light surrounds the face. Think of the feeling of being in love and your smile will glow.
It would be an amazing to win the Art Skin Care System since I’m a new member to the YL family and I’m so wanting to experience every product and oil there is to get…On the series subject, my most favorite selfish is when myself or others are actually looking away from the camera and looking in an upward angle…..♡♡♡♡♡♡
You have pretty much covered everything in selfie tips! I like to make sure the background isn’t too busy or cluttered which can be distracting. I like to be natural as possible in my photos, being yourself says a lot to others.
Definitely play around with angles and lighting. Also make sure you are comfortable so you can have a natural looking smile :)
When you have a genuine smile most the time your showing your teeth so make sure to show off those pearly whites when taking that selfie! Plus you could always throw a shout out to the benefits of your Thieves Aromabright Toothpaste! =D
I’m new to Young Living and would love to try the skin care!
I would love to start with ART!
Knowing the angle is critical . . . no one wants to look down your nostrils! And don’t over post selfies . . . seems a bit too self-centered.
Practice, Practice, Practice….Angles and lighting are your friend!!
Use the burst mode on your phone so you are sure to get one with your eyes open!😜
Perfect timing for this post as I’m soon heading of to Mexico for a much needed vacation. I will use these tips along with my selfie stick! I can’t wait to try the Art Skin Care System!!!!
I have yet to try the YL skin care line and I’m curious because I am still searching for the perfect skin care for me.
I don’t really like to take my own picture so I love these tips and have been wanting the ART skincare system for some time in hopes of making my skin more camera friendly and further boosting my confidence to take more selfies.
have an interesting background!
Art to make you selfie ready!
Love the tips. Especially be conscience of your background and to take several pics and then decide which is best. Be selective in the pics you post.
The most appealing photos are when the photographer, in a selfie case this is you, uses the rule of Thirds. Generally, you want your eye line to be one-third down from the top of the frame, and off to one side of the frame a little bit. Never center yourself in the picture it will look like your driver license photo and will not include the magnificent background that inspired your selfie.
Be silly… HAVE FUN!! :D
Be creative, Be different, be natural – and then filter as needed.
Selfie stick!
My tip: Don’t aim for perfection. Selfies are about moments in (primarily) personal life, and personal life can be remarkably imperfect (and awesome). Show what truly is, not what perfect is. <3
I feel like I always do it at the wrong angle. I always end up with a double chin.
Have FUN with it — my girls love funny, goofy selfies of themselves. And I never over post/publish them.
Don’t over edit! Keep it real:)
Include someone or something you love in your photo with you! Always smile and show joy.
I keep trying to find that perfect angle that takes off 30 years!! I would then have the BEST selfie ever!! Having always taken great care of my skin, I would love the opportunity to try YL’s skin care products.
Thank you for the info and opportunity to win some products.
I have one of my children be in charge of taking the selfie with me included. They innately seem to know these things! Thanks for the tips, and I am an avid ART skincare user :)
Thanks for the tips!! Would love to win ART kit, love all of YL products 💗
Being spontaneous about the picture always seems to be best, seems when people try to hard to pose it doesn’t work.
Great tips! I really don’t like pictures of me! May the
set of Art Skin care would be good for me!!!!
Non-make-up wearers:
Clean face and apply 3 drops of Frankincense oil before taking selfie to make your skin radiate!
Make-up wearers:
Apply 2-3 drops of Frankincense before applying an HD Primer…
Whether youre aiming for a more serious selfie or whimsical one…confidence is key!
SMILE!! :D
Find your camera button & be prepared to snap while looking at the camera, not the button. Eyes tell the story of your soul & it’s important that they be looking so your viewers see their beauty!
Thanks for tips! Also thanks for giveaway, would love to win Art skincare line!!
