The power of essential oils and the Vitassage™ extends beyond its use on people. I have been involved in helping rescue horses and other horses with high emotional issues, especially in the racing industry.
In August 2012, Cole Woolley, vice president of Global Science, gave me a Vitassage to use on horses after he saw a presentation of my work on these majestic animals. Having done emotional clearings and the Raindrop Technique® on many horses, I was excited to see what the Vitassage could do.
I first tried the Vitassage with thoroughbred racehorses. They can be quite flighty, and the first mare was excited to see and smell me as I approached. Based on her history, I decided that the best oils for her were Peace & Calming®, Release™, and Valor®.
At first I offered a couple of drops of Peace & Calming from my hand. As the mare smelled my hand, she decided to lick the essential oils. It’s truly amazing how horses are so attracted to these essential oils—it’s like a treat for them!
I massaged her shoulders in a circular motion until she became used to what I was doing. I proceeded to introduce the Vitassage in the “Off” position first. I then turned it on and massaged her in a circular motion along each side of the spine from withers (shoulders), to the dock (base of tail), over the rump, and down the shoulders and chest. Within a few minutes, her head lowered and she closed her eyes. She was asleep! I spent about 15 minutes with this horse, and there was a major change in her demeanor. She went from being an agitated and anxious horse to a quiet and settled horse.
Recently I used the Vitassage with a 26-year-old purebred Appaloosa named Legend County Saints Thunder, affectionately known to his friends as Hector. Hector was a much quieter horse—quieter than any horse I had worked on before. Because of this, I helped him “choose” his oils. I held out a selection of open bottles, and with each one I would observe if he would move his head away or near the bottle or whether he would step away or closer to the bottle. Horses will tell you a lot about their preferences for the oils if you let them. The essential oils Hector chose were geranium, Peace & Calming, and blue cypress. After a few minutes, Hector was completely relaxed and closing his eyes. I proceeded to use the Vitassage on some tight spots along his spine and was able to provide a wonderfully relaxing experience for him.
The Vitassage provides complete relaxation for horses within a short amount of time. It is a great tool to use on horses for emotional issues.

Hi–I have also work with dogs and horses, and they have both responded to Peace and Calming and also to Joy. It would be interesting to try a Vitassage on the animals along with the oils. I Love working with animals—maybe even better than humans.
My grandfather would have loved this! He was an Old Texas Cowboy who would go as far as to wash his horses at the manual car wash to keep them calm during cleaning! Wish he was still here to be able to see and use this!
This looks like a wonderful addition to my healing toolbox!!!
I would love to try this!
Would love to try this :)
I would love to try this! Hoping to start taking riding lessons sometime soon and it would be great to bring oils to the stables along with me! :)
Great idea Cole! My brother Barry from Natural Horsemanship does workshops. The last time I visited him, I pulled out my bottle of Sacred Frankincense and one of his horses (nicknamed sticky beak) came right up to me wanting to have a smell. He couldn’t get enough of it! I thought the bottle was going to be vacuumed up it’s nostril! I will be visiting Barry again next month so I would love to take a vitassage up with me to try it! Thanks for sharing your story Jen! Regards Jade
I have been treating people and horses with reflexology and would not be without my YL oils . It is amazing how animals , especially horses, react to these oils . One owner was treating a hoof abcess with harsh meds . . the horse resisted so much he licked over the soaking bucked several times . I put rosemary ,thyme and lemon in warm water for soaking and he settled down . WE then treated him with Pan Away and oregano around the coronet. Valor on spine He never resisted his treatment for the next few weeks and we had successful healing of a very bad abcess. I would love to win a vitassage.
I don’t have a horse but have wanted a Vitassage since they came out. Now I know it has to go on my next order.
I recently lost my job and would love to start a new career using YL oils. This would be wonderful as I could try this in my ciusin’s horses to gain experience.
I finally figured out what I want to do when I grow up :-)

My horses love YL oils!
We have six adult horses and two brand new foals and I would love to try this on them. One who has a vision problem and so is a bit jumpy and high strung would be a great place to start.
Young Living continues to AMAZE me! Has anyone tried this on cows? Seems like it would be good to use for show cows…
I should work on any animal …
Its amazing all the good that Young Living oils are providing people and our beloved pets! I am so excited to try this!
The Vitassage would be a great addition to my aromatherapy toolkit! As an equine massage therapist, I enjoy showing owners things they can do for their horses when I’m not there. The Vitassage would be perfect!
I would love to be able to try this on my animals. I find this so very interesting and I love to try new things. Thanks!!

Inspiring! Love hearing how other people incorporate the oils into their life – and into the lives of other creatures they love ;)
I am dying to try this :)
I know three horses in my barn that would LOVE this. They love massage, love their oils and this would be an awesome combination. Our top 5 oils in the barn are Lavender, DiGize, Valor, Peppermint, and Purification. Wouldn’t be without them!

I was using YL Oils for myself and my family. Having someone do a Raindrop Technique on my 25+ year old gelding who was lame for months, she also taught me how to do the RD process on him and after months of lameness a few weeks of the oils took away the lameness, swelling, and heat. He’s now running around and loving Springtime in the Midwest. I am SOLD on YL Oils for EVERYONE in my family!! 2 legged and 4!!
Just getting started with Essential Oils. Have been reading lots about their use with horses as well. Can’t wait to see which oils our “Little Joy” (a paint) picks out for herself and the affect they have on her.
Very excited about trying the Vitassage! Amazing how God’s plants can be so helpful for even horses!
This unit looked amazing before… never thought about using it with horses. I have many friends who live in the horse world :) would love to get one of these and be able to show them the Vitassage and let them see how it works. Sooooo excited!!!
As a mobile veterinarian, I can think of a host of horses that need this therapy! Currently learning about incorporating YL oils in my practice and excited about all the possibilities!
Wonderful addition for horseback therapy!
I use oils with my goats, but have not tried the vitassage yet. For the most part, my goats don’t get too stressed out except for when they are giving birth. I am interested to find out how they would react to the vitassage. I am glad you have had such success with your horses, and thank you for sharing your experience.
I gave the Vitassage as a Christmas gift. The recipient truly appreciated it! A massage with the oils – you gotta love it!
I am brand new to YL {less than a week :)} but I am loving it so far, I think this would be great to try
I live with Fibromyalgia and chronic pain and would love to win a Vitassager! I am fairly new to YL and am still learning the basics of the oils.
Thanks for this great testimonial. Horses are so intuitive. I would love to win one of the Vitassage massagers. I’m sure it would help many of my clients! I’m a doula & a Qi Healer. I use the YoungLiving essential oils as support for all my clients. It is amazing how helpful they are. I had one mom who held a towel with the essential oils on it by her nose throughout her 26 hours of labor! After helping her for 26 hours straight, I got home and I used the lavender essential oil all over to relax & prevent muscle fatigue the next day. Worked like a charm!
This sounds amazing! I would love the opportunity to help my dog with his chronic arthritis pain as well as try it on my self!
I love hearing stories about using oils on animals! It always amazes me that animals know what will help them.
I love this article about the horses and the oils. Especially how each horse is different. I have people in my downline interested in working with horses, so this information will come in handy.
I would love to be able to try the Vitassage as I live with chronic pain. Sounds like it works very well.
amazing how different the horses respond to individual oils!!!
very interesting!! I’ve only been with YL a few short months, but am already hearing so many positive testimonies from ppl. This is good to know so that I might pass it on to others that would benefit from this!
My cousin has just asked my earlier this afternoon to research what oils would be helpful for horses. She has used lavendar in the pass with her horses and wanted to expand. She has a couple of horses that can have anxiety at times and be fine other times while working with them. I did think of peace and calming and valor (I don’t sell YL oils but will be signing up in a couple of months). I believe your article above was exactly what I needed to see. Thank you!! And yes I would love a chance to receive one of the vitassage massagers and a companion gift. Thank you. Cheryl Thiele Kamps
I’ve been eyeing the Vitassage! I would love to win one!
