Product Background
Did you know that lavender is part of the mint family and is one of our most popular oils? Young Living has three farms that grow lavender, located in Utah, Idaho, and France. Lavender is steam distilled from the flowering tops of the plant, and it takes 27 square feet of lavender plants to make one 15-ml bottle of Lavender essential oil. In ancient Greece, Pedanius Dioscorides, a physician pharmacologist and botanist, praised the many qualities and uses of lavender. You can find Lavender essential oil in many Young Living blends, including Stress Away™, Tranquil™, RutaVaLa™, Forgiveness™, and Harmony™.

Historically, Greeks used lavender aromatically by burning it. The ancient Romans used it in their baths for washing and valued it so highly that one pound of lavender flowers were sold for the equivalent of a month’s wages for a farm labourer.

FAQs

FAQs

Q. Is lavandin ever grown and combined with lavender in Young Living’s blends?
A. Young Living does not grow any lavandin. We grow and offer lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) for purchase.
Q. Why doesn’t Young Living make spike lavender? I’ve heard that it has more cleansing properties than regular.
A. Studies suggest that there are marginal cleansing properties in spike lavender. However, the primary purpose of this oil is not cleansing. It is the most versatile of all essential oils. Therapeutic grade lavender has been highly regarded for use on the skin. It has also been clinically evaluated for its relaxing effects. The fragrance is calming, soothing, and balancing.
Q. What is the approximate volume grown, harvested, and distilled by Young Living?
A. The Young Living Lavender Farm specializes in the production of lavender and currently has 157 acres dedicated to growing it. All of the plants are harvested and distilled when they reach their peak for the production of pure lavender essential oil. The volume varies each year, depending on many factors such as crops, peak harvesting time, and production.
Q. How much plant material is required to produce this oil?
A. It takes a sizable amount of plant material to produce the oil—about 3/4 acre of lavender yields just 4–5 gallons of essential oil!
Q. How long are the plants for Lavender essential oil distilled? How many active agents are present in Lavender oil?
A. We are unable to provide information regarding the distilling process as it is considered proprietary. We can advise that primary constituents of Lavender are linalool and linayl acetate, but there can be well over 50 constituents that complete the essential oil.
