Emotional and Mental Wellness with Essential Oils - Dr. Benjamin Perkus
3/18/2016
We all desire mental states such as focus, peacefulness, clarity, and joy, and we tend to run away from emotional states such as fear, shame, guilt, and loneliness. Unfortunately in day-to-day life, we can become imbalanced when life is not going as we wished, and as such, many people turn to addictions such as food, alcohol, drugs, or gambling to numb the pain they feel inside.
Essential oils offer a novel approach to finding balance and they have the advantage of being safe, convenient, non-toxic, natural, and best of all, enjoyable to use. There are several strategies we can use to shift emotional states quickly with essential oils, as well as some long-term strategies to help enhance brain function and improve focus and concentration.
For instance, citrus essential oils such as Young Living Lemon, Tangerine, or Grapefruit can be uplifting, whereas oils from trees such as Young Living Idaho Balsam Fir and Black Spruce can be grounding. Floral oils such as Rose and Jasmine tend to give us a feeling of sweetness whereas root oils such as Ginger and Vetiver can be strengthening.
Frankincense has been used for thousands of years in religious rituals because it is deeply calming. Recent research has identified specific receptors in the brain that are activated by components of Frankincense to bring about this calming effect in a way different than previously identified opioid receptors.
Young Living essential oil blends have been designed by founder of Young Living, Gary Young, to express a specific intention, such as Joy, Hope, Inspiration, or Abundance. The oil blend of Brain Power was specifically formulated with oils that help bring oxygen to the brain and stimulate thinking and focus. The blend called Common Sense was created to help us with making sensible decisions. Trauma Life essential oil blend is used to help process and release negative memories, and the Inner Child blend connects us to our core being.
Young Living supplements such as OmegaGize contain a highly absorbable form of Omega-3 oils that help build and maintain healthy brain tissue. Young Living Ningxia Nitro is formulated to stimulate mental energy and clarity through a combination of essential oils and key bionutrients.
People often worry that they don't know how to use the oils "correctly" - but with emotional balancing the most important thing is to "follow your nose" and pay attention to how you feel after smelling an oil - your body and mind will tell you if an oil is balancing because you will just feel better - quickly - when you find the right one.
